The City of Chicago, is the third most populous city in the nation, and is the Cook County seat. During the mid-18th century, the area was inhabited by a Native American tribe known as the Potawatomi. In the 1780s, the first known non-indigenous permanent settler arrived in the area, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable. He is commonly known as the “Founder of Chicago.”
